How to recover from a mistake… with honor!

HOW TO RECOVER FROM AN ERROR… WITH HONOR!

It’s virtually impossible not to make mistakes in the course of a career. How do you get out of it without losing “too many points”?

Admit your mistake before your superior…

…learn it from another source. If you don’t, you risk losing his trust. You must inform your boss of your mistake and its possible consequences.

Always offer a choice of solutions

Never admit to a mistake without offering your superior a solution, or better still, a choice of solutions.

Apologize without endless justification

Avoid apologizing for hours on end. This betrays an insecurity and vulnerability that can only work against you. Apologize sincerely, but quickly refocus the conversation on alternatives.

Learn from your mistakes

Are you goofing off? Rest assured, there’s worse: repeating it! Locate and neutralize the cause of your error to prevent it from becoming a career derailleur.

Keep these tips in mind, and you’ll see, it’s always possible to recover from a mistake. You just have to accept it!
