As the closing of many businesses comes into effect tomorrow and activities are slowed down by the exceptional COVID-19, you may be asked to produce records of employment (ROE) for your employees. Here are the most recent instructions provided by Service Canada:
  • If your employee is sick or in quarantine due to COVID-19, please write the following comment in Block 16 – Reason for issuing this ROE: “Code D – Illness or injury”.
  • If your employee is not working due to a shortage of work or the business has shut down due to COVID-19, please write the following comment in Block 16 – Reason for issuing this ROE: “Code A – Shortage of work (layoff)”.
  • If your employee is not working for other reasons related to COVID-19, please write the following comment in Block 16 – Reason for issuing this ROE: “Code E – Quit” or “Code N – Leave of absence”.

Please note: In all cases, please refrain from entering a comment, unless necessary. A comment will require a Service Canada agent to manually process the ROE  which can result in longer delays.
