Quebec NPOs, NPOs and CO-OPs: financial risk management training now available

Demers Beaulne, in collaboration with the Quebec government organization CSMO-ÉSAC, offers training in
internal controls
exclusively for Quebec NPOs, NPOs and CO-OPs operating in various sectors.

Best practices in governance, sound financial management, financial information: our experts Jacqueline Lemay and Audrey De Rancourt present a training program that will enable you to use the sound management of your organization’s financial and accounting activities as a strategic lever.

Why train in financial risk management?

Managers and board members have a variety of responsibilities, including safeguarding assets, managing resources, overseeing financial affairs, and producing reports such as financial statements containing financial information. To maintain sound financial management and make informed decisions, managers and other stakeholders can benefit from the development of best practices and the implementation of internal controls. Financial management control mechanisms enable managers and other stakeholders to base their financial analyses on reliable and accurate information for strategic decision-making.

Course broadcast

Training is provided by the Comité sectoriel de main-d’œuvre Économie sociale Action communautaire (CSMO-ÉSAC).

Duration

The course lasts around 20 hours. Registration is valid for 6 months, renewable as many times as necessary, free of charge.

Cost

The cost is $200, including a one-hour tutoring session.

Formula

This specific online training is asynchronous, i.e. it does not offer simultaneous communication. The learner is therefore completely autonomous, and can take the course whenever and wherever he or she wants.

Prerequisites or skills required

For learners with little or no knowledge of financial management, we recommend that you first take the CSMO-ÉSAC Financial Management distance learning course, available here.

Examination and certification

A final, non-compulsory exam is available for learners wishing to obtain a certificate of achievement, i.e. two SOFEDUC Continuing Education Units (CEUs). The exam questions are taken from the training exercises, and the pass mark is 60%. Learners are allowed three attempts to pass the exam.

How to become a risk management expert

To get there, you need to acquire the knowledge and develop the skills to recognize risks, analyze them, select the appropriate control and implement it. Several training courses are also available.

What are the principles of risk management?

An exercise consisting of identifying potential risks to an organization, assessing the likelihood and impact of the risks identified in order to make a decision on the measures to be deployed (or implemented) to minimize or eliminate the impact of potential risks. This exercise must be repeated periodically and as needed.
